Gulf Dunes Study

Bon Secour National Wildlife Reserve, Alabama
June17, 2010
Oil on paper
10 " x 10"

In June of 2010 I was delighted to find this relatively undisturbed dune environment on the otherwise highly developed Gulf coast. These tenacious sculpted live oaks and Florida rosemary are two of the specialized plants that can tolerate the harsh oceanfront conditions, in this case, including hurricane Katrina. As I painted this scene, I chose to leave out the heavy equipment working on the beach, cleaning up oil from the BP spill.
